Our very own Community Champion | ||||||||||||
On Sunday May 18th 2008 Shirley Maynard was presented with a Community Champion award for the category of Kindness to Animals. The award was the result of a a nomination from Anne Baker of Stenson Field, Derby, because of her dedication to helping sick animals. The event took place at Pride Park Stadium with Richard Felix of Living TV’s Most Haunted presenting the award. Shirley was one of twelve local heroes to be honoured during the evening and the ceremony was broadcast live on BBC Radio Derby. Although Shirley’s main pride and joy is caring for the residents of Saint Francis Hospice, the cats allowed her an evening off duty to receive the award. The ceremony was a success as can be seen in the photographs. |
